Trump Orders Nuclear Submarines Repositioned After Medvedev’s ‘Highly Provocative’ Remarks
President Donald Trump announced Friday that he has ordered two nuclear submarines to be “strategically positioned” in response to what he called “highly provocative” statements from Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president and current deputy chairman of its Security Council.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated, “Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev… I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.” He added a warning that “Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences,” expressing hope this wouldn’t be such an instance.
The move comes after Medvedev on Thursday alluded to Russia’s Soviet-era automatic nuclear strike capabilities.1 This remark followed an earlier warning from Trump to Medvedev to “watch his words.”
It remains unclear whether Trump’s order refers to submarines equipped with nuclear weapons or simply nuclear-powered vessels. This is a developing story.
